A food industry machine builder’s solution to deliver a higher level of food safety to end user without sacrificing machine flexibility and footprint.
Open Hygienic Design allows for clean in place
For end users in meat processing, there is no more important equipment choice than the proper selection of a slicing system. Productivity, profitability, product quality and food safety are dependent on the slicing technology.
Daily cleaning is vital to prevent bacteria and germs from building up inside the meat processing machines. Harsh detergents and high-pressure wash-downs can cause seals and bearings of key components to corrode and wear down over time. Typically, critical components are kept in enclosures for protection from corrosion during cleaning processes. Enclosing these critical components makes cleaning and sanitizing the machine difficult and more time consuming.
Provisur, a leader in industrial food processing equipment, wanted to see if its Formax® SX series slicing machines could deliver even stronger performance. They decided that an open architecture design would allow improved cleaning and reached out to WITTENSTEIN to consult on potential solutions. After the engineers collaborated on the performance and design requirements, the axenia actuator was selected as the ideal solution.
Stainless Steel Actuator Rotary Servo Actuator in a Hygienic Design
A stainless-steel rotary actuator rated IP69 class protection, withstands direct high-pressure and detergents, allowing Provisur to move ahead with its open architecture design with confidence. Not only did this change made the cleaning process faster and more convenient for the end user, it ensured greater levels of hygiene and food safety in cleaning processes. An added benefit is the smaller machine footprint due to the axenia actuator’s design of the gearbox and motor combined within one unit.
